Frequently Asked Questions | Digital Decorator

FAQs.

Ordering your custom wallpaper:

Does Digital Decorator wallpaper come in rolls?
No. Our wallpaper designs are made to measure, meaning you enter the dimensions of your desired space and we will produce it in 'drops' or panels to fit your wall.
How do I measure my wall?
Use a tape measure to give your wall height and width at 3 different points, preferably at both corners and in the middle. Use the largest reading when entering your dimensions on our website.
Can I upload my own photo?
Yes. Digital Decorator allows you to upload your own photo and turn it into a personalised wallpaper. You can also upload any stock image you find online. Use our quality meter to see if the photo is good enough to be turned into a wallpaper.
Can I choose the scale and colour of my wallpaper?
Yes. The Digital Decorator website allows you to choose the colours and scale of your design. If you see a design you love but your desired colour isn’t listed, or if you’d like us to match to an existing paint colour, please get in touch via info@digitaldecorator.co.uk for our bespoke service.
What’s the difference between a repeat pattern and a mural?
A repeat pattern wallpaper is made up of multiple tiles that create a repeating pattern, a mural is made up of a single tile or an image. This means that when ordering a mural, you must choose your desired crop so that the mural fits your wall.

Installing & maintaining your custom wallpaper:

Do I need to be a professional to install?
No - Our wallpaper is designed for easy installation so with basic DIY skills should be capable of hanging. We print and send the wallpaper to you, complete with an Installation Guide to advise on how best to apply your wallpaper. Please be aware that you are ultimately responsible for applying your wallpaper, so if you are unsure, we suggest you do seek help and guidance from someone who is experienced.
How will my wallpaper arrive?
Digital Decorator wallpaper is suppled in clearly marked, floor to ceiling, pre-cut panels or ‘drops’. Digital Decorator wallpaper is printed on our state-of-the-art latex printer. We print in stunning photographic quality onto a high quality, smooth, matte digital wallpaper. We then carefully package into cardboard tubes ready for delivery to your door.
What if my wall isn’t perfectly square?
No problem. The length of each panel will match the height you have entered for your wall, plus we provide an additional 30mm excess top and bottom on each panel to allow for your wall not being perfectly square. A personalised Digital Decorator Installation Guide is included with each wallpaper order to help you.
What type of wallpaper paste should I use?
Use only ‘paste the wall’ adhesive that is applied directly to the wall. We recommend using Solvite or Polycell ‘paste the wall’ wallpaper adhesive, mixed to ‘heavy duty’. These are widely available in most DIY stores.
How should I prepare my wall?
It is very important to ensure that your wall is ready for wallpaper. Correct wall preparation will result in an easier, more straight forward installation and your wallpaper will adhere better to the wall. The minimum steps we advise would be:
  • Remove any previous wallpaper
  • Fill any cracks or holes with filler and sand smooth
  • Remove any flaking paint
  • If wallpapering onto new plaster please ensure that your wall is correctly primed and sealed before hanging your wall wallpaper
Adequate preparation will also mean that in the future, removing your wallpaper will be as trouble free as possible. Depending on your level of experience, you may wish to seek professional decorating advice for the suitable preparation of your wall in readiness for your new Digital Decorator wallpaper. See our Installation Guide for more details.
Can I clean/wipe my wallpaper?
Yes, with care, you can wipe clean your wall wallpaper. Simply take a clean sponge and dampen using warm water and wipe gently. Our wallpaper offers excellent scratch resistant properties, but be careful not to scrub too hard, as with all paper based products, the surface will eventually suffer. Do not use chemical detergents.
Will the wall be damaged when I remove the wallpaper to re-decorate?
Digital Decorator wallpaper is designed not to damage your wall when you remove it, assuming it has been applied to a wall that is correctly prepared.
What if I damage a panel and it becomes unusable during installation?
We are able to re-print individual panels if required. If this happens to you, please contact us for assistance and we will be happy to help. Please note any extra panels requested will incur an additional cost.
